Custom motorcycle gloves: EN 13594 levels, leathers and cuff styles for private-label brands

Gloves are the most-bought piece of motorcycle protection and the easiest to add to a brand. Here is what separates a summer glove from a race gauntlet, and how certification works.

In short

Custom motorcycle gloves are made in goatskin, cowhide or kangaroo-type leather, or textile with leather palms, in short-cuff or gauntlet styles, with hard or soft knuckle protection. In the EU and UK they are PPE certified to EN 13594 (level 1 or 2, with KP marking for knuckle protection). Blackthorn World makes them from 100 pairs per style, from about $8 per pair FOB, and arranges certification per design.

What does EN 13594 mean for a glove brand?

EN 13594 is the European standard for protective motorcycle gloves. Level 1 is the baseline for road gloves; level 2 sets higher requirements for abrasion, cut and seam strength, and is typical of sport and race gloves. A KP marking shows the glove has passed the knuckle-protection impact test. In the EU and UK every model sold as protective must be certified by a notified body. We hold EN test reports on some current glove articles and arrange certification for your own designs.
