About the Evergreen Varsity Cardigan
Before the melton jacket took over, the cardigan was the award garment — and it is back for the reason most heritage pieces return: it is wearable indoors, under a coat, at a desk, where a bulky varsity jacket is not.
Forest green against ivory is the pairing collegiate buyers return to year after year — it photographs cleanly on a white catalogue page and sells through without discounting.
Before the melton jacket became the default, the letterman cardigan was the award garment, and it has come back for the reason most heritage pieces do: it is wearable in places a bulky jacket is not. This one is knitted at 12 gauge in a 50/50 acrylic-wool blend at roughly 420 gsm — dense enough to hold a chenille crest, fine enough to sit under a coat.
The contrast sleeves are knitted in, not stitched-on fabric panels, and the V-neck, cuffs and hem carry a 2x2 striped rib in your colours. Numbers can be intarsia-knitted into the body rather than applied, which is the detail that separates a real varsity cardigan from a cardigan with a badge on it.
It sells hardest to schools and universities running an award or prefect programme, to alumni stores, and to streetwear labels that want the collegiate reference in something a customer will wear to work. We will grade it to a women's or youth block, change the button count, or run it cropped.
Blackthorn World has manufactured outerwear in Sialkot since 1995 under ISO 9001:2015 quality management, with WRAP and SMETA/Sedex social compliance. Cutting, embroidery, chenille and stitching all stay under one roof, so the colour standard you approve on your sample is the one repeated on your fifth reorder. We ship door to door to the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Europe, the Nordics, Japan, Australia and New Zealand by DHL, UPS and FedEx, and by sea for container volumes.
Send a tech pack, a reference photo or a rough sketch to sales@blackthorn-textile.com, or message WhatsApp +92 334 096 2222, and we will come back with fabric options, a costed proposal and a sample plan.

Frequently asked questions
Is this knitted or cut from fleece?
Fully knitted at 12 gauge, including the contrast sleeves and the striped rib trim. It is produced on knitting machines, not cut and sewn from jersey, which is what gives it the proper cardigan drape.
Can numbers be knitted in rather than stitched on?
Yes — intarsia-knitted numbers and letters are built into the body as it is knitted. It costs more than an applied patch and it is the detail buyers who know the category look for first.
What is the minimum order?
Ten pieces per style, sizes and colourways mixed. Knitwear development takes slightly longer than cut and sew, so allow 10 to 14 days for the sample.
Is it wool or acrylic?
A 50/50 acrylic-wool blend as standard, which balances price, softness and shape retention. We also quote 100% lambswool and a cotton blend — ask and we will put all three on one costing.
